Dear readers, I complain here today because every time I try to bring up this subject at school – I’m running a risk of being put down as a heathen.
In the Swedish language, the word “Weird” contains the word “Art”
I suspect this has somehow affected the brains of the population and they now see everything weird as a form of Art.
Before I attended to art-school, I thought that all modern art-schools were propagating the eternal fine-art, and bashing everything modern or abstract.
Well my school sure does not, call it lack of talent or comprehension.
Instead of spending every Monday afternoon having lessons about art-history we should instead have
anatomical theory, or even material studies.
Aside from a few crash-courses in composition, the subject is hardly ever mentioned.
This week I’m sentenced to make a duplicate of
Matisse’s “Musique”
He is one of the most famous “cubism” exhibitionists often associated to Picasso.
Now I know that it’s a “style” but there’s an unwritten law about styles:
Love them, study them, but never copy them!
The best styles are acquired by first understanding the world and then bending it. I’m sure everyone of you have at least once heard the saying: You must first learn the rules before you learn how to break them (That goes out to all you manga-diehards too!)
So here I am looking for a school that will teach me the traditional fine art – So I find this school here which is literary called “Free Painting School” and i think: “hey let’s try this.”
Well It’s turns out to be not what I had expected.
Ever since I begun there I’ve been taking huge steps away from artists and thinking of myself more of an illustrator.
I guess that when one finds himself being a better teacher than his master, it is perhaps time to find a new master. (Tips much appreciated!)
