Yesterday while taking a serious crack at my godforsaken TG789vn router
I realized that my windows was missing a telnet client (what has the world come to, what’s next no browser?).
So I wrote a quicky for node

Anyways , for those of you in sweden cursed with a shiny thomson TG789vn gateway completely locked down by motherblasting Telia, well you know the pain.

But just to make a few things clear to all you non-technical people.

Most of you who know my pain know it in the form of your online games loosing connections or freezing.

I’ve read a few threads containing butthurt WoW fags, and most of them think their issues has to do with portforwards or “Bridged mode” (where as you can set yourself in DMZ to achieve the same effect)

Well NO! Your problem is not the blasted built-in firewall (wich I do hope you’ve disabled) nor any portforwards (Make sure UPNP is activated).

It’s as simple as.. cough the buttcrapped overzealous IDS! (Intrusion Detection System)

WHAT IN THE HOLY NAME OF PANCAKES IS AN IDS DOING IN MY PERSONAL HOME ROUTER TELIA?! I asked for an internet connection!! NOT A SPANISH HOMBRE WATCHING MY BACK WASTIN’ “SUSPICIOUS” CIVILIANS!!

Yep it turns out you that the “LAN-Admin” user that telia so kindly supplied you with does not have priviledge to inactivate the IDS.

And as a result to it being configured by intrusion standards made dated to 2004, your normal gaming activity is now classified as ‘UDP floods’
And that means, that whenever your game trips up this wire, the packets for that connection are dropped!!

Well I sincerely hope that it’s just a stupid mistake on their part, not taking into account that the bandwidth they offer exceeds their configured standards for floods.

Because if it isn’t, god forbid! I can only guess that they’re implying that they want to cripple P2P-Filesharing.

Anyways, there’s no easy workaround for this, kind people have only managed to resolve this issue by reflashing the router with a JTAG, wich by the way turns out to be a breach of Telia’s contract.

So I kindly ask those of you who are affected by this inconvenience to contact Telia’s customer service and specifically ask them to disable the godforsaken IDS! ( Don’t take “have you tried restarting your computer” for an answer!)

Games that I so far know is affected by this is:
Battlefield 3
Bloodline Champions
World of Warcraft
Heroes of Newerth
